ESB to introduce new peak-time bill rate to encourage “greener” behaviour

At last the market-leading domestic electricity supplier with 1.4 m customers is showing vision and leadership.

Irish consumers need to be aware that the real cost of electricity varies throughout the day and that if we continue to increase peak time demand costly upgrades will be needed to the system.

For example if those of us with electric cars simply plug them in and charge them straight after work we will be adding to the peak-time load. Ideally EVs should be charged using free midday PV power or failing that low cost night rate energy.
