Can you get a grant for solar panels in Ireland?

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) offers a one-time grant to homeowners in Ireland for installing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

How much is the grant for solar panels?

The value of the SEAI solar grant you receive depends on the size of your PV solar system system. This is measured in kWp (kilowatts peak).

For example:

  • €800 for 1kWp
  • €1,600 for 2kWp
  • €1,850 for 3kWp
  • €2,100 for 4kWp

Note: The maximum solar grant amount is currently capped at €2100.

How long does it take to get a grant for solar panels?

The SEAI grant offers are available for up to 8 months once approved. At Pinergy Solar Electric, we will manage the paper work for your SEAI grant application. All you need to do is start the application online. We will keep you updated on its progress. It usually takes 4-6 weeks from completion of the install for the grant to be paid.

How do I apply for an SEAI grant?

The SEAI grant application process has five steps:

  1. Find and appoint a registered SEAI solar PV company
  2. Apply to the SEAI for a grant offer and wait for approval before starting work
  3. Apply to ESB Networks about connecting your system to the electricity grid
  4. Installation of solar PV panels and a post-work Building Energy Rating (BER) assessment.
  5. Submitting evidence of the work to the SEAI and the SEAI then processing the claim.

Pinergy SolarElectric applies for you to the ESB for your grid connection. We also arranage the BER assessment for you, requiring less time and effort on your part. And then finally, we submit all of the paperwork to the SEAI for you post-install so the SEAI can process your grant claim

Who is eligible for an SEAI grant?

All homeowners and private landlords in homes built or occupied before 31st December 2020 are eligible for an SEAI grant.

The property must not have received previous funding for PV Solar panels at the same Meter Point Registration Number (MPRN).

What is a kWp?

Peak output is measured in kWp, which is kilowatt-peak. So depending on your home energy needs, your grant would be:

  • €800 for 1kWp up to 2kWp eg. €1,600 for 2kWp solar panels
  • €250 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp capped at €2,100 eg. €1,850 for 3kWp, €1,600 for 2kWp
What other financing options for solar panels are available?

Pinergy Solar Electric have partnered up with Finance Ireland so you can purchase your Solar PV now and spread the cost, a great option for many customers. Borrow between €4,000 and €25,000 with a term of up to 10 years. Find out more here.
